“Is there something that does not love a “wall”? asked Robert Frost. In Savannah where grey brick walls outline properties in the Historic District, the answers to that question are time, weather, water, and benign neglect. We walk by a bulging or bowing exterior wall without seeing its damage until it is almost too late.
Not so architectural illustrator, Christopher Grubbs, whose keen eyes spotted the unloved walls surrounding Massie Heritage Center. He has called Savannah home since 2018 and celebrates his new town with drawings he calls “Savannah in Transition”, which include two Massie details wall drawings.
Trained as an architect, Christopher is a renowned illustrator. His love of drawing the world around him and worlds yet to be imagined has led him to unsuspected places.
These two extraordinary 11” x 14” wall drawings by Grubbs are now available for sale as part of a fundraising effort by the Friends of Massie to restore these beautiful old brick enclosures. An unsigned print is $50 and a signed print is $75. For further information contact us. Mr. Grubbs will be available at Massie Heritage Center to sign his prints on April 1 and 2 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.
